Purpose and Scope

Transforming the Trauma Within is a comprehensive, trauma-informed workbook designed to guide readers through understanding, processing, and integrating the effects of personal and intergenerational trauma.


It combines evidence-based psychological theory, somatic regulation practices, and reflective writing exercises with compassionate, spiritually attuned language.

Developed from Dr. Medeiros-Connors’ twenty-five years of professional experience in counselling, crisis intervention, and trauma recovery, this workbook provides an accessible bridge between clinical concepts and lived experience.

Instructor Bio 

Dr. Cindy Medeiros-Connors is a Counselling Therapist and Certified Canadian Counsellor with over twenty-five years of experience working with children, families, and adults in trauma recovery and crisis intervention.
She is a Master-Certified EMDR Specialist, trained in ART, IFS, NARM, CBT, DBT, and somatic-energy modalities.
Dr. Medeiros-Connors currently practices and facilitates workshops through Beyond the Cycle Trauma and Wellness Clinic in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Course Overview

Transforming the Trauma Within is an immersive, trauma-informed training designed to help practitioners deepen their understanding of complex and intergenerational trauma while applying integrative approaches to client healing.
This program merges clinical psychology, somatic therapy, and reflective practice through the structured use of Dr. Medeiros-Connors’ original workbook, Transforming the Trauma Within.
Participants gain practical tools for emotional regulation, parts work, grief integration, and somatic stabilization within ethical, evidence-based frameworks.

 

Educational Goals

• Strengthen Participants (and/or) practitioners’ ability to identify and respond to trauma-related nervous system states.
• Explore generational “root system” influences and their impact on attachment, grief, and identity.
• Integrate EMDR, IFS, NARM, and somatic modalities into trauma recovery frameworks.
• Facilitate safe, trauma-informed reflective exercises with individuals or groups.
• Model clinician self-regulation, cultural humility, and embodied presence.

Learning Level

Intermediate to Advanced (clinicians with foundational counselling or psychotherapy training)


Duration: 12 instructional hours (2-day format )
Delivery Format: In-person,  (lecture, experiential learning, and workbook integration)

Active participation, workbook module completion, reflective journaling, and CE knowledge check.

Course Description

This two-day professional training provides an in-depth, trauma-informed framework for integrating Transforming the Trauma Within into counselling and group facilitation practice.


Participants explore the interplay between psychological, physiological, and intergenerational trauma responses and learn applied strategies for regulation, parts work, and embodied healing.


Grounded in evidence-based models—including EMDR, IFS, NARM, and somatic-body approaches—this program bridges clinical theory with accessible, compassionate tools for client transformation and self-care.
